Herford: Käfer- und Veteranen-Wintertreffen

Today we visited a nice winter meeting in Herford - about 170 km fom home. It is located in an old freight shed - but luckily a heated one. We meet some friends and had a good time. There were a lot of vendors and some real nice rigs. But I've been there with my son - and also on a mission (to find all the little stuff mentined below) - so I simply forgot to take some pictures, Here is the only one I did:
Heute waren wir in Herford. Da Ich mit Sohn und "Einkaufsliste" unterwegs war, habe ich irgendwie das Fotografieren vergessen, hier mein einziges Bild -Ich hätte aber reichlich "knipsen" können, es gab eine Menge zu sehen und viele Leute zu treffen!

Here is what I found, some rubber grommets for the wiring loom and a wiper switch which I want to modify from pressure operated to electrical operation - We will see when I get there!
Hier meine "Beute" -diverse Kabeltüllen und Durchführungen für den Kabelbaum. Der Schalter soll von pneumatisch auf elektrisch umgebaut werden - mal sehen wann ich dazu kommen...

Tomorrow I will clean up the garage and prepare everything to get starting with the chassis work...
Morgen wird die Garage aufgeräumt und für die Arbeiten am Chassis vorbereitet!

FINALLY!!!! - Endlich!!! ... @ the body shop!

Today I took the chance, the weather was dry, so I took half a day off and finally hauled the body to the body shop!

Heute habe ich die Chance ergriffen, es war trocken, also habe ich einen 1/2 Tag frei genommen und die Karosserie zur Lackiererei gebracht!
During the transport a little incident happened, see the before and after pics:

 

The bolts to secure the upper half of the rack came loose and the front slipped some 12 inches down!
Die Sicherungsstifte um die obere Gestellhälfte zu fixieren haben sich während der Fahrt gelöst und das Gestell ist vorne 'runtergerutscht!

zum Glück ist nichts verbogen oder abgebrochen...

the Spaghetti incident

Today I completely pulled out the wiring loom, next week finally the body shop will start work on the body.
I took a lot of pictures and hopefully I get everything back to its original position! Most of the sleeving is totally brittle - so at least this stuff has to be re-done anyway as well as a lot of additional wiring for a Tach, Oiltemperature and -pressure, the back up lights.... Maybe I start a complete new loom? We will see...

Heute habe ich den gesamten Kabelbaum ausgebaut. Nächste Woche gehts endlich zum Lackierer! Beim Ausbau habe ich diverse Bilder gemacht -hoffentlich kriege ich alles wieder zurück an seinen Originalplatz!?!
Das Bougierrohr ist total brüchig, das muß also sowieso erneuert werden, dazu kommen noch diverse zusätzliche Kabel für Drehzahlmesser, Öltemperatur und -druck, die Rückfahrscheinwerfer usw...
Vielleicht mache ich ja einen ganz neuen Kabelbaum - wir werden sehen...

Rosmalen 2011

It was great! I purchased quite some parts I was looking for, like a new lock cylinder, a few rubbers for body / front axle mounting, a real good chrome piece for the number plate light bezel, a rare gauge and also a NOS Type 3 oil cooler! a few screws and minor stuff as well. Look:

My main focus was parts, parts, parts today, but I also tried to make some pics, due to real bad lighting the pics are not that great:

Rosmalen, here we come!

 
Tomorrow Ralf and I will drive to Rosmalen in the Netherlands for the the Beetle Winter Fest. I expect it to be roughly a 1,5 - 2 h ride. One of the rare occasions to meet the other crazy guys during winter time. I am looking forward to meet you all! Watch this space for some pics of this event later this weekend!

My annual Motorsports highlight: The Dakar!
